What happens if I modify a protected position?

Adding more lots to a protected position does not extend protection to the new lots automatically.

If you increase the size of an existing position that already has Protection enabled, the stop-loss and target will continue to apply only to the original quantity. The newly added lots will not be covered by the existing protection.

Example

  • Original position: 5 lots with SL and target set via Protection

  • You add: 3 more lots to the same position

  • Result: Protection still applies to the original 5 lots only. The additional 3 lots are unprotected.

What Should You Do?

After adding lots, review your position and update or re-apply Protection if you want the stop-loss and target to cover the entire position. You can modify the existing protection to include the new total quantity.

Why Does It Work This Way?

Protection is set for a specific quantity at the time you apply it. When you add lots separately, Punch treats them as a modification to the position size but does not assume you want the same exit levels for the new lots. This gives you the flexibility to manage different parts of your position independently.
