When you open the Punch Dashboard, you will notice a thin bar running across the top of the screen. This is the custom status bar — it replaces the standard Android notification area and gives you trading-relevant information at a glance.
What the status bar shows
Left side — Current market status (open, closing, or closed) shown as a coloured dot with text.
Right side — A live clock in 24-hour format (hours, minutes, and seconds).
If your network signal drops, the left side switches to a "Weak Network" warning until connectivity recovers.
Market status states
During the last five minutes before market close, a live countdown counts down to zero. Once it hits zero, the display switches to "Market Closed." On weekends and exchange holidays, it stays on "Market Closed" all day.
Weak network warning
Punch checks your connection regularly. If it detects consistently poor signal, the market status text is temporarily replaced with a "Weak Network" alert. Once the connection stabilises, the market status comes back automatically.
Where the status bar appears
The custom status bar is visible only on the Dashboard. When you navigate to other screens (like Settings or a stock detail view), the bar pauses. It picks up again when you return to the Dashboard.
Frequently asked questions
Does the clock follow my time zone?
The clock shows your device's local time. However, the market status (Open / Closed / Closing) always runs on IST, regardless of where you are.
My device clock is wrong. Will that affect the market status?
Yes. The market status is currently calculated using your device clock. If your phone's time is significantly off, the status transitions will be off too. Keep your device clock accurate or set it to automatic.
Can I turn the status bar off?
No. The status bar is always on when you are on the Dashboard. There is no toggle to hide it.
