Can I Transfer Stocks Between Demat Accounts?
No, off-market stock transfers (transferring shares between Demat accounts) are not yet available on Punch.
What is a Stock Transfer?
A stock transfer, also known as an off-market transfer, is the process of moving shares from one Demat account to another without selling them on the exchange. Common use cases include:
Transferring holdings from your old broker to Punch
Gifting shares to family members
Consolidating shares across multiple Demat accounts
Transferring inherited shares
Current Status on Punch
This feature is not yet supported on the Punch platform. You cannot currently initiate transfers to move stocks in or out of your Punch Demat account.
What You CAN Do Right Now
While transfers aren't available, you can still build your portfolio on Punch:
Buy fresh shares on Punch and they'll be held in your Punch Demat account
All shares purchased through Punch are automatically credited to your Punch Demat
View and manage these holdings directly in the app
If You Need to Move Holdings from Another Broker
If you have existing holdings with another broker and want them accessible on Punch, your current workaround is to:
Sell the shares on your old platform
Withdraw the funds
Add funds to your Punch account
Rebuy the same shares on Punch
Important: This approach triggers tax events (capital gains or losses) based on your purchase price and holding period, so consider the tax implications before proceeding.
When Will This Feature Be Available?
Check the Builder's Lab or "What's New" section in the app for updates on when stock transfer functionality will be launched. The Punch team regularly adds new features based on user feedback.
