Kill Switch is a circuit breaker for your own trading. When you turn it on, Punch cancels every pending order in the segments you pick, squares off your open positions in those segments, and locks new orders there for a fixed time you choose. It's built for the moments where the right move is to stop trading — high losses, tilt, or anything that calls for a hard pause.
You cannot turn it off early. That's the point.
Turning Kill Switch on
Open the Jump To menu on Punch desktop and choose Kill Switch. If you’re on Andriod then headover to your Profile inside the Jump-to menu.
Pick the segments you want to lock: Equity (Intraday + Delivery) and Futures & Options. Both are selected by default, and at least one must stay selected.
Pick a duration: 1h, 2h, 4h, 6h or 8h. The default is 1h, or the duration you used last time.
Click Activate Kill Switch.
A confirmation dialog shows a summary of what will happen — pending orders cancelled, open positions squared off, and trading locked for your chosen duration. Click YES, CONFIRM to go ahead, or NO (or click outside) to back out.
When activation fails
If any pending order can't be cancelled or any position can't be squared off, Punch shows an Action needed – Orders failed to exit sheet with two counts: how many orders weren't cancelled and how many positions are still open. In that case Kill Switch is not activated — you'll need to exit the remaining orders and positions manually and turn it on again.
What's blocked while Kill Switch is on
Blocked in the locked segment
Placing any new order (market, limit, trigger, iceberg, basket)
Still allowed
Viewing your portfolio, positions, P&L, charts, watchlists and option chain
Trading in the other segment, if you only locked one
Adding and withdrawing funds
Adding the other segment later
While Kill Switch is on, opening it from the Jump To menu shows a read-only view: which segments are locked and how much time is left.
If you only locked one segment to start, you can come back here and lock the second segment too. You cannot end Kill Switch early — there's no off button, by design.
When Kill Switch turns off
The lock ends silently when the duration runs out — no notification, no modal, trading just becomes available again in those segments.
Things to keep in mind
Market hours only. Kill Switch can only be activated while the market is open.
No early exit. Once active, there is no way to turn Kill Switch off. The countdown has to finish.
It's per segment. Locking Equity does not lock F&O, and vice versa — pick what you need.
Synced across devices. Kill Switch is enforced on the user account and not on device, so a lock you turn on from mobile applies to your desktop in real time, and the other way round.
