How to use the OI Profile on Punch charts

Visualise open interest across option strikes as horizontal bars on your chart to spot support, resistance, and institutional positioning.

The OI Profile overlays open interest data directly on your chart as horizontal bars along the Y-axis. Each bar sits at its strike price, making it easy to see where the most positions are concentrated — and where key support and resistance levels are likely to form.

What the bars show

  • Green bars — Put OI at that strike (potential support)

  • Red bars — Call OI at that strike (potential resistance)

Longer bars mean higher open interest at that strike. Tap any bar to see a detailed tooltip with the exact call OI, put OI, and how much OI was added or reduced during the day.

How to enable it

  1. Open any supported chart (index spot, index futures, or stock futures).

  2. Tap the Indicators icon on the chart toolbar.

  3. Search for OI Profile and tap to add it.

  4. The OI bars appear immediately on the right side of the chart.

Choosing expiries

Open the OI Profile settings to select which expiry dates to display:

  • Single expiry — shows OI for that specific expiry only.

  • Multiple expiries — shows cumulative OI across all selected expiries.

By default, the nearest weekly or current month expiry is selected. Your selection is saved across sessions, and expired contracts are automatically removed.

OI vs OI Change

You can switch between two views in the settings:

  • OI — total current open interest at each strike.

  • OI Change — how much OI was added or reduced over a chosen timeframe: 5 min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, 2 hours, or 1 day.

OI Change helps you spot real-time build-up (new positions being created) vs unwinding (positions being closed) — useful for gauging live institutional activity during the trading session.

Customisation

From the OI Profile settings you can adjust:

  • Bar colours for calls and puts

  • Bar thickness

  • Opacity (default 25% so it does not block your price action)

  • Width — how much of the chart the bars can occupy

Where OI Profile works

OI Profile is available on:

  • Index spot charts (NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, FINNIFTY, etc.)

  • Index futures charts

  • Stock futures charts

It is not available on individual option price charts or equity cash charts that do not have derivatives. On unsupported charts, the indicator is automatically hidden.
